PKR State Secretary Lost Confidence in Khalid as Selangor MB

Malaysiakini reported on 23rd June 2008 that Selangor Menteri Besar's special officer Yahya Sahri was suspended for two months from official duties over his alleged abuse of power in awarding cleaning contracts.

It went on to report that the ACA is investigating the matter and Yahya's suspension comes just about two weeks after Khalid brushed off allegations that any of his top state officials were involved in graft.

The Menteri Besar was quoted saying that the ACA probe only showed that "we in PKR are more transparent in our dealings".

Yahya Sahri then resigned with immediate effect from being the MB's special officer as well as PKR's state secretary.

In his letter, which was faxed to Khalid's office, Yahya said that he had lost confidence in Khalid as the menteri besar.

He added that he would reveal his other reasons at a later date.

He also told his supporters that he wanted Khalid to step down as the state's PKR chief, to be replaced by the party's de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

What amazes me is the spin that PKR had put on whole episode. Why is it when someone from BN is investigated by the ACA, its “look at how corrupt they are” but when someone from PKR is investigated its “we in PKR are more transparent in our dealings”?

If they had been transparent in their dealings, why then the need to brush off allegations in the first place?

Further, it is damaging to have PKR’s Selangor State Secretary declaring that he had lost confidence in Khalid as menteri besar. What confidence can the people place on the menteri besar if his very own special officer (who presumably knows the menteri besar better then the rest of us) has lost confidence in his ‘leadership’?

It is either the case of PKR's State Secretary playing the blame game upon being caught or the MB losing fast the confidence of his subordinates. In either case, it exposes PKR coming apart at its seams.

All this is happening within the first 100 days of PKR being in power! What happened to the promises of clean and transparent government, PKR? You rode to power on those promises didn’t you?

Well, promises are one thing, delivering on them is another matter altogether, PKR. Whilst you are learning this lesson, the people are paying for it, dearly.

“He covered page after page with wild words of sorrow and wilder words of pain. There is a luxury in self-reproach. When we blame ourselves, we feel that no one else has a right to blame us. It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution.”- Oscar Wild

Good tactic! Though new in power, PKR has shown us they are none the less seasoned tacticians in the game of political subterfuge.

It has long been in the grapevine that Khalid would relinquish his position and make way for Anuar when the time is right.Apparantly that was the master plan.

Perhaps, the time was ripe and the Mentri Beasr, had become too comfortable in his cushy seat that he didn’t want to give it up. So, something had to be done. If my conspiracy theory is right, not that I am saying I am, Mr. State Secretary had paid a high price. Though I am sure he was handsomely rewarded. Either way, ultimately, like you said, it us the people who are paying dearly.

What is really amusing is Anwar Ibrahim has been playing a clever game only for his benefit, ever since his depose. Sadly people who thought themselves too clever were the ones who got caught up in his game. I would have assumed Lawyers could detect cheats better then others, but they seem to be Anwar’s main supporters.

Tell me Mr. Murugesan, you are a lawyer too, how come you are not in support of Anwar and why are many of your counterparts such fervent supporters of Anwar?

Well said, bro! I had posted a similar article about this earlier in my blog. Similar views... not even 100 days, we have an ACA inquiry. So much for the much touted 'change' that was promised.

We always talk about negative things, why not we look at the positive things that Khalid and the Gang has achived. Can anybody list down the good things that they have done...go through and then comment...
Do you thing 100 days enough for any new goverment ? We should give them a chance to rule for 5 years. If you think they are not capable, just change them in the next election, as simple as that.

we need to give them a chance !

Mr Rastaman,

When the new Selangor state government had done good things, I did commend them on it. Please refer to my earlier article on "Land for Temples in Selangor", so its not only the negative stuff. However, even on the Land for Temple matter I heard that the MB denied Mr Xavier's claim that the restriction of 10,000 sf feet for temples had been lifted. I didn't write on it as I couldnt get hold that report.

Yes Muru anne, it is known among the insiders that Khalid does not hold the wider influence among PKR Selangor member. Infact, many in PKR does not favour him, as he is seen as a product of UMNO's cronyism (yes, anwar himself is a product of such :p hehehe)

TanSri Khalid never got the chance to win in Ijok byElection last year because of his bad track record with plantation/estate workers' rights when he was the CEO.

But to use his inability to control his own party men as the party's failure is not fair. Its like saying PakLah cant hold grip his own UMNO, hence its ruined.

You asked why ppl say, "when someone from PKR is investigated its “we in PKR are more transparent in our dealings”? "

well, i dont have to point much. The fact remains. THe missdeed, or alleged misconduct by Yahya was exposed by PKR itself. The party puts the nation's interest well above itself. I am sure we dont have to compare that with UMNO.
As Najib himself said it, "Party interest comes first"

So much of a patriot.

as for the '100 days' comment , rakyat went through 50years of same thing, 100days wont hurt us. :P

I am not a member of PKR nor any party, but definitely when come to criticizing we can clearly see the differences. Yes we all can agree, that PKR,DAP, PAS etc are all short of their own pledged promises ..but its just 100days...and lets not forget that that 100days is filled with continuous politicking by both sides.

We need to look at the Americans. They would spit and fight till end for the presidency, the whole nation will be divided in opinion. But that is only till the election. Once the president is chosen, the politics end. They are all citizens of the country and they continue their work in driving the nation into greater heights. But here in Msia, we fight all nite long .

Mahendran seem to have forgotten about the feud between Newt Gingraich and Former President Bill Clinton during Clintons term as President of The United States

.
Beginning in late 1995, The Republican Party led by Gingrich overrode the Presidents veto. The republicans wanted deep cuts in government spending which Clinton flatly refused. Gingrich led the Republicans not to submit a revised budget causing the previous budget to expire, bringing the federal government to a shut down due to a lack of funds. One of the reasons for this is Gingrich claimed, The President snubbed him during their return journey from Yitzhak Rabin’s Funeral.

Let us not forget Clinton’s successor, President Bush who came under attack from his opponents in congress for issues ranging from his economic policies to the removal of the Attorney General, Hurricane Katrina and of course to the Iraq war. There were even calls to impeach him.

The American congress and White House is steep in such history. American political mechanism is different from Malaysian politics. Their lobbying is different from our. There are many differences between our style of politicking as there similarities, as proven above.

Dear Mr. Rastamanan & Mr. Mahendran

Then are we to keep silent and not voice our observations or concerns? If that is the case, we will be back to square one. Then where is the Democracy? Yes, many voices had been silenced before, perhaps some even till today and that is what we should be advocating against. Now, that is the hallmark of democracy!

If we were to keep quiet, wouldn’t it be like how it used to be? That’s how we got into all this mess in the first place right? because some didn’t dare, some didn’t care and the rest wanted to give them a chance. What are we saying here, lets give them 5 years to make their mistakes because the previous government took 50?

If the BN or it's affiliates were to raise queries about those who stand against them, it is viewed as undemocratic. If it’s vice versa, we question democracy? Where is the equation here? Isn’t equality another characteristic of democracy, don’t you agree? Democracy means FREE and EQUAL representation.

Democracy does not guarantee equality of conditions -- it only guarantees equality of opportunity……Irving Kristol.
