To Leave or Not To Leave...

The MIC Youths’ age limit issue had been hotly debated by the youths and had been widely covered by the press. In the frenzy of it all, certain facts had been ignored or perhaps conveniently forgotten by those involved. It is against my policy to discuss party matters in this blog, however, certain facts must be stated here to set the record straight.

1. There is a provision in the MIC Constitution that defines “Youths” as male members of MIC below the age of 40.

2. This provision was discussed and interpreted during a CWC meeting in 2001. At the said meeting the provision was interpreted on its effect and application. The records are there as to who were the MIC Youth’s CWC representatives at that time.

3. An interpretation was made that a youth ceases to be a “Youth” on his 41st birthday and is to relinquish his youth post.

4. Based on the above interpretation, Dato Nelson, the then MIC Youth Leader graciously resigned his Youth Leader post in 2002 and the then Youth Secretary Vigneswaran was appointed as the Youth Leader.

5. For the record, I have a different opinion as to the meaning of “below the age of 40” and I have expressed my views on it before this. As I understand it, a youth ceases to be a youth on his 40th Birthday not his 41st Birthday. However, there is this 2001 Interpretation and I abided by it.

6. During the party elections in 2006, based on this interpretation, many youth leaders who would not otherwise be eligible to contest had the interpretation been “on his 40th Birthday”, contested the Youth Elections as they were yet to celebrate their 41st Birthday.

7. Having contested for the youth positions based on the first half of the 2001 Interpretation, it is only proper that those concerned adhere to the second half of the interpretation viz, relinquish his post on his 41st Birthday.

8. This week, the MIC Secretary General gave a detailed briefing on the issue to MIC Youth National Council Members and State Youth Leaders. Almost all attended and they accepted the Secretary General’s explanation (after raising certain questions and further clarification being given). Only a few Council Members who were not present are now making a hue and cry over it in the media.

9. Mr. S.Ramis, the Deputy Youth Leader and other Youth Council Members/State Youth Leaders that are caught by the 2001 Interpretation have made it clear that they will abide by it. So will I!

10. It is time that we, the ‘old guards’ of the MIC Youth make way for new blood in the Youth Wing. The ‘Old Guards’ should look forward for life in mainstream politics and leave space for the next generation of Youth Leaders to hone their leadership skills in the Youth Wing. There are many able and willing Youth Leaders in the MIC Youth Wing. I am sure they are better able to reach out to the next generation of youths out there and take the Youth Wing to a new level.

Vigneswaran should make way for others.
T.Mohan is the right candidate.
Other than tht, see who else elgible - seniority, age factor, contribution, talent and commitment.
Person like Datuk Edmund Santhara also should get in.

Congratulations Mr. Murugesan!
All the beat in your future venture into mainstream politics. I wish you well and hope you succeed. Many of us are counting on you and of course Datuk Sri Samy Velu and his team to bring new changes and improvement in MIC and bring it back to what it once was.

Rajah

;) wooots..hot topic indeed!

while certain parties like your good self accepts the decision , there are some who disagrees.

read in newspapers today that Kedah Pemuda resigned en masse .

one question sir, if a youth leader resigns from Youth, means he will just be a normal ordinary member of the parrty or what?

A genuine leader will fight till the end for people. It does't matter which platform either MIC, DAP,PSM, PKR or Makkal Shakti.
Bro,What it takes for you to join other platform to fight for Indians ? I am very confident you be able to contribute for Malaysians if you are in different platform.
I am also sure other party will welcome you.

Brother, you hit the nail on the head. Some people think positions are very important to serve the community. I don't think so...if there is a will there is a way, they say. Anyway, your former boss, Vigneswaran should learn from his mistakes. Bringing and walking beside a group of thugs don't make him a leader. He should earn respect from others and they should root for him. NOT HIM ROOTING FOR HIMSELF! Please advice him that his era of running around threathing people is over. If he starts doing that again, more police reports would be lodged and this time, he would be behind bars even for 24-hours. I have lots to say about him but I would not tarnish your blog with that comments. Keep your head high brother, you are one of the shining stars of the party so don't let us down by joining the Klang Thamby!

Mr Mahendran,

A Youth does not cease to be a youth when he resigns his youth post. Yes, you are right he will continue as an ordinary member.

Mr Rastaman,

Thanks for the compliment. Yes, there are various platform for us to serve the nation and each shall choose what suits him best. I have chosen MIC and if I am to continue in politics, it will be with MIC. When I quit MIC, I will quit politics.

well said Mr.Murugesan,it's very happy to see S.A.VIGNESWARAN leave,
but but but i hope we don't see T.MOHAN replacing him.

you are either with the people or against the people.

S.A VIGNESWARAN is against the people.he can be a lawyer of all we care but he doesn't behave like one.always talks and walks like a thug.

anyway enough of the past.i hope the president of MIC can follow his footsteps and leave.

we need to look forward and leave all this nightmares behind us.

an excellent candidate for MIC youth precidency would be someone educated and clean of social ills.

Tamil kingdom is absolutely right. I support Tamilkingdom’s call a 101%

Actually, no one has more qualification and credibility then you. You have done so much for community, though behind the curtains. However, many of us know your hard work, dedication and commitment. I wish you were our next youth leader. However it’s the issue of the age again!

Shreekanth

`the constitution is clear that a male before 40 is a youth

this clause was inrerpreted in2001 ,then re interpreted in 2006 all to suit convenience

Muru you have brought up yhis issue before.

Why should our const be diffirent,UMNO and MCA have allowed their youth leaders to continue until the term expires

There is always a transition period

I wish i could challenge this interpretation in court, then sgsin the MIC const will not allow me so

Mr. Gesan, I agree with your view,it looks like some of the youth's in MIC really looking for the post and power and not willing to help the community, this is the simple and logical answer why we flop in the 12 General Election.Pls bring new educated youths to lead the party, train them to become "PUTHIYA MANARGAL".Thank you

The latest: T. Mohan has been appointed as MIC Youth Coordinator while S. Murugesan would be his deputy. S. Ramis would head the MIC Youth Advisory Panel.....

oh my god, like i said earlier "i hope we don't see T.Mohan replacing Vigneswaran".our prayers has not been answered.

well the only thing that stops the tears pouring down is Mr.Murugesan made deputy MIC Youth Coordinator.

MCA is set to have a new leadership and UMNO some way or another are planning for it as well.....but what about MIC?no news whatsoever about a leadership change.

you can change the youth leadership, even the Wanita leadership but the face of the party is the president itself.

you can rebrand all you want but no change of face and everything goes down the drain.

what does malay and chinese leaders understand that indian leaders dont?
